Menopause and Aesthetic Therapy to Help

Anyone who has gone through menopause will tell you how awful it can be. Hot flashes, sleepless nights, vaginal dryness and mood swings are just some of the symptoms that can leave you feeling fed up, tired and depressed.

How to tell when you are beginning to go through menopause?

Once females enter their 40’s, the body produces less estrogen. This is called Perimenopausal, the early stage of menopause. During this stage, periods can be regular or irregular and can affect the reproductive system. You may notice some hormonal changes such as changes in your period cyclehot flashes, sleep problems and mood swings. Other changes include weight gain, headaches, loss of sex drive, UTI Infections and fertility issues. However, despite the significant drop in estrogen, it is still possible to get pregnant during this time. During the final stages of perimenopause, the body will produce less and less estrogen.

The Perimenopause stage can last from as little as a few months, to as long as 4 years.

If you haven’t had a period for 12 months you will have reached menopause. Classic symptoms of menopause could extend into the postmenopausal stage which can last up to five years. During the menopause will experience common symptoms such as:

  • Hot flashes. This feels like a sudden burning/hot sensation in your face and upper body. Hot flashes could last a few seconds to several minutes and can occur several times a day or just a few times a month. We suggest carrying a handheld fan around with you to help cool you down.
  • Cold flashes. As a result of a hot flash, you may experience chills, shivers,  or cold hands and feet after your body cools down from the hot flash.
  • Night sweats. Very uncomfortable, night sweats can wake you up in the middle of the night and keep you awake. We suggest opening the window, sleeping with pure cotton bedsheets, and it may help to sleep alone during this period.
  • Insomnia. Sleep problems can occur as a result of night sweats.
  • Emotional changes. These may include mild depression, mood swings, and irritability.
  • Vaginal problems. Vaginal dryness, discomfort during sex, low libido, and an urgent need to urinate can also be symptoms of the menopause.

How can The Kent Aesthetics Clinic help you get through menopause?

During the menopause, skin can become dull and tired from lack of sleep and lose elasticity due to the drop in estrogen levels. Thankfully, there are some beauty treatments that can help you through common symptoms of the menopause. Here at The Kent Aesthetics Clinic we recommend Venus Versa MP2 treatments, which offers a combined science of radiofrequency and pulsed electromagnetic fields. The advanced  (MP)2 technology revitalises severely tired skin, by smoothing wrinkles, tightening the skin and giving a noticeable glowing complex.

Venus Versa MP2 treatments feature a unique combination of Multi-Polar Radio Frequency (RF) and Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF). Multi-Polar RF uses a complex algorithm to deliver homogeneous energy and volumetric heat to multiple tissue depths, allowing for quick and safe buildup of heat and easy maintenance of therapeutic temperature throughout the treatment. This stimulates new collagen production in the skin.

The effect of Multi-Polar RF is enhanced by a non-thermal mechanism emitted through the applicator’s electrodes, which penetrate through the dermal skin layers. Through synergistic (MP)2, RF heats and directly stimulates fibroblasts, while PEMF is known to promote angiogenesis and induce fibroblast proliferation through release of the growth factor FGF-2, resulting in increased collagen synthesis. Therefore, (MP)2 is highly effective in collagen remodeling for skin tightening and the creation of new capillaries for renewal of blood supply.

This treatment will renew and rejuvenate menopausal skin. Courses of 2 – 5 are always recommended. However, during menopause, just 1 treatment is noticeable and will help with poor skin quality, from lack of sleep and menopausal symptoms.
